What are Interlinear Bibles?

An Interlinear Bible, is a Bible with extra "in-line" information, like Strong's numbers, morphology, other languages, etc. They come in two types: Traditional and Reverse.

Traditional Interlinears

A traditional interlinear Bible is based on the original Greek or Hebrew text, and shows the literal English translation on the line below. They follow the original language's word-order, and are generally most valuable to people familiar with the original language, or learning Greek and Hebrew. For examples, see the Nestle-Aland Interlinear or the Lexham Hebrew-English Interlinear.

Reverse Interlinears

A reverse interlinear Bible follows the English word-order, and shows the original language on the line below. This allows a layman to access the original text in a way that might be more accessible to them without learning Greek and Hebrew. In Logos Bible Software, these interlinears are included directly in their English counterparts, like the ESV, KJV, NASB, etc - when you own a Logos base package.

Using Interlinear Bibles:

Option 1: Traditional Display

To access a traditional interlinear, click the “Display” button at the top of your bible. In the menu provided, check the “Inline” box. This will display the interlinear information. You can also use this menu to change your interlinear display options - turning information on or off.

You can use this method for viewing and changing traditional AND reverse interlinears. Traditional interlinears will show some of their interlinear information by default, but clicking the "Display" menu will allow you to adjust which lines are visible.

Option 2: The Reverse Interlinear Ribbon

The second interlinear option is unique to reverse interlinears. It can be accessed by clicking the Interlinear Button, directly to the right of "Display.

This will display a reverse interlinear "ribbon" in the bottom portion of your Bible. You can customize the ribbon by right-clicking any of the row names and checking or unchecking the desired datasets. These options are unique to each bible, allowing you to select different options for each translation.
