The Logos Smart Tag is an unsupported "power toy" addin for Microsoft Office 2002 and later, which allows Microsoft Word (and other Office applications) to recognize Bible references entered in a document, and provides the ability to replace a reference with the text of that passage.

In order for Bible references to be recognized, Logos must be running.

When the "Replace with Passage" option is selected, the text is copied from the preferred Bible using the last style selected in the Copy Bible Verses panel is used. To change the style, choose Tools > Copy Bible Verses or press Ctrl+Alt+B.

Using the Logos Smart Tag

  • The Logos Smart Tag only works in the Windows versions of Microsoft Office; Mac OS X is not supported.
  • The Logos Smart Tag is installed as part of Logos 4.1 or later (for Windows); no separate installation step is necessary.
  • You must be running Logos (at the same time as Microsoft Office) for the smart tag recognizer to work.
  • The Logos Smart Tag does not support running Logos or Word elevated (i.e., "Run as administrator"); both programs must be run with regular user permissions.
  • The Logos Smart Tag will only insert plain text (with no formatting) when the Replace with Passage action is used; to insert formatted text, use Copy Bible Verses.
  • Only the 32-bit version of Microsoft Office is supported. As per the Microsoft guidance, the 32-bit version of Office should be installed to support third-party add-ins. A beta version of the Smart Tag for 64-bit Office users is available for testing; see this forum post for more information.
  • The Logos Smart Tag will not work on Windows Vista if User Account Control is disabled. Either re-enable UAC or install hotfix 971138.
  • The Logos Smart Tag is unsupported and is solely provided for the benefit of power users.
  • Depending on your version of Office, the smart tag may not be enabled by default. Follow the instructions for your version of Office below to enable it.
  • The Logos Smart Tag doesn't support PowerPoint 2010 or PowerPoint 2013 (but earlier versions of PowerPoint are supported).
