Volume four contains Lightfoot’s commentary on the completeness of the four Gospel writers, beginning with Matthew. He also covers how the Gospels are in harmony with the Old Testament. Lightfoot addresses the language and comprehension difficulties in translation in this volume as well.
John Lightfoot (1602–1675) was born in England, the son of a clergyman. Lightfoot was a brilliant academic, educated at Cambridge. He followed in his father’s footsteps as a minister. Lightfoot also was a prolific writer, known for his work on the date of Creation.
