Overview

This volume contains Julius of Iona’s liturgy which seeks to unify the Christian churches. Julius visited the Eastern Church and was raised in the Episcopate. He hoped his liturgy would be confirmed by Christians everywhere. This simplified liturgy is based on The Greek Euchologium, and it is supplemented by The English Prayer Book. Written for congregations to read aloud and understand together, it draws from his understanding of other denominations. Julius trimmed away doctrines particular denominations would object to, while keeping the essential doctrines all churches consider necessary to salvation. The text contains prayers, ordinations, liturgies, and more. This foundational liturgy will prove useful to preachers and laity alike as they seek common footing in their faith.

Jules Ferrette (1828–1904) was bishop of Iona and founded the Catholic Apostolic Church of the West. As a boy, he read the works of Early Church Fathers and divines, and determined that most denominations of the Christian church weren’t necessary. Ferrette studied philosophy and theology at Grenoble and Rome, and was eventually ordained as a Catholic priest in 1855. He later left the Catholic Church and served with a Presbyterian Mission.
