Gary Staats is the former Gale and Harriette Ritz Professor of Old Testament at Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay, Ohio. He is now retired. He received his ThM in New Testament Greek and ThD in biblical studies from Dallas Theological Seminary, his MA in Hebrew and ancient Near Eastern languages at Dropsie College of Hebrew and Cognate Learning, and his PhD in Hebrew and Near Eastern languages at New York University. Dr. Staats has held posts at various schools and in numerous pastorates for many years.

    This commentary at points brushes completely over key stories in 2 Kings. In addition, some sections are poorly treated and underdeveloped exegetically. I do commend the commentary for its clarity and organization, however.
