Overview

This fascinating new study examines the way in which early Christianity developed from Jesus lifetime until its spread into the Greek world. While source material relating to this subject is so scant many tools of sociology are unusable, Gerd Theissen shows that the asking of sociological questions can shed new light on familiar evidence.

In a clear, easy-to-follow text, Theissen looks at typical social behavior of first-century Christians—both those who traveled to preach the gospel and the communities that received it. He also considers the economic, political, and cultural influences society had on the early church, and vice versa.

In the Logos edition, this volume is enhanced by amazing functionality. Important terms link to dictionaries, encyclopedias, and a wealth of other resources in your digital library. This 5 star rating comes out of the "review" provided by Carmichael, in which he writes "4.5 for Thiessen." His rating of 3 stars was his evaluation of the Overview provided by Logos, not a rating of the book.

New study???? So your blurb says. But the details tell me this was new in 1978!!! Thiessen is indeed an important scholar, but if I see the encomium 'new' I do expect a new work. 3 stars for faithlife, 4.5 for Thiessen - in its day.
