Pastor Derek Prince outlines how, as a person comes to faith in Christ, four elements are required: confrontation, revelation, acknowledgment, and confession. Prince explains how if we have never laid that foundation, we can never erect the building that is our life in Christ. Once we have laid the foundation, we can go on to complete the building.
“They have never really changed their mind. They have never really made the decision to surrender to the Lordship of Jesus in their lives. They are still making decisions based on this point of view: ‘If I do this, what will it do for me?’ If someone has truly repented, that is not the way they think. Instead they think, ‘If I do this, will it glorify Jesus?’” (Page 8)
“The Greek word in secular language is always translated ‘to change your mind’—change the way you think” (Page 7)
“The Hebrew word for repent means literally ‘to turn around.’ You have been facing one way—the wrong way, with your back to God—so you turn 180 degrees around, face toward God, and say, ‘God, here I am. Tell me what to do and I’ll do it.’ If we put the Greek and Hebrew definitions together, we have a complete picture of repentance: It is a decision followed by an action.” (Page 7)
“Bear in mind that repentance, as defined in the Bible, is not an emotion. It is a decision. It does not spring from the emotions. It springs from the will.” (Page 7)
“Do you see the two elements? He made a decision and then he turned around. That is repentance: making a decision and carrying out your decision.” (Page 9)
