Overview

The Perfect Shepherd takes the reader into the rugged hills of Palestine and beside its serene pasture lands in an effort to accurately portray the experiences of the shepherd and the flock. Dr. Davis draws upon personal experiences while living among the shepherds to illustrate the meaning of Psalm 23.

Every verse is carefully analyzed for both its message and its application. Thirty drawings and photographs throughout the nine chapters aid in visualizing the passage discussed. Readers of all ages will enjoy these reflections that lead to a greater love of our Lord, the Perfect Shepherd.

Top Highlights

“He constantly mentioned the fact that the best shepherds are those who genuinely love their sheep. They not only should love them, but should feel deep obligation for their care and growth. ‘It is this,’ Mohammad emphasized, ‘that causes a shepherd to be willing to give his life in the protection of sheep.’” (Page 39)

“Wisdom is also a necessary characteristic of a successful shepherd” (Page 41)

“True rest is being where God wants the believer to be.” (Page 66)

“But how then do ‘the rod and staff’ bring comfort? They are the symbols of a well-prepared shepherd and provide him with a clear identity. The rod speaks of protection; and the staff is for the prodding necessary to keep the flock together and on the path.” (source)

“Palestinian shepherds normally lead their sheep rather than drive them.” (Page 48)

This is a REALLY good little book. It's a fun read, it's a blessing, and it's a good exposition. And for once I love being able to say: at $6.99, it's a ridiculously good price. HIGHLY recommended.
