I have no idea why a 1 star review with no explanation is the only rating on here. First and foremost Dr. Peters is an excellent canonist. Second, at the time of the publication of the previous code, a comprehensive translation into vernacular languages was not permitted. The multi-volume Fr. Augstine Commentary on Canon Law got around that by providing a full quotation in Latin and then giving a detailed explanation, but that was hardly the same thing. When the new & current code was promulgated, the old code fell by the wayside. Enter Dr. Peter’s most excellent work, which finally gives a comprehensive translation for the sake of those studying the history of current texts and their background. In English there simply isn’t an equivalent resource.Jonathan Soriano
