Overview

This New Testament commentary series reflects the objective of explaining and applying Scripture. Some commentaries are primarily linguistic, others are mostly theological, and some are mainly homiletical. This one is basically explanatory, or expository. It is not linguistically technical but deals with linguistics when that seems helpful to proper interpretation. It is not theologically expansive but focuses on the major doctrines in each text and how they relate to the whole of Scripture. It is not primarily homiletical, although each unit of thought is generally treated as one chapter, with a clear outline and logical flow of thought. Most truths are illustrated and applied with other Scripture.

From the bestselling bible commentator alive, we are releasing 2 Peter & Jude, the 24th addition to the MacArthur New Testament Commentary series. This volume will include 9 chapters on 2 Peter and 6 on Jude. These commentaries have been praised for their accessibility to lay leaders and are a must for the library of every pastor. MacArthur gives verse-by-verse analysis in context and provides points of application for passages as well.

Top Highlights

“Christians have received everything in the form of divine power necessary to equip them for sanctification—they have no lack at all. In view of that reality, the Lord holds all believers responsible to obey all the commands of Scripture.” (Page 27)

“Fourth, some people lack assurance because they cannot remember the exact moment of their salvation.” (Page 35)

“A third reason for lacking assurance is that some do not accurately comprehend the gospel.” (Page 34)

“God’s supply of spiritual power for believers never fails. They may distance themselves from the divine source through sin, or fail to minister and use what is available, but from the moment they experienced faith in Jesus Christ, God has granted His power to them. Has granted (dedōrēmenēs) is a perfect, passive participle meaning that in the past, with continuing results in the present, God permanently bestowed His power on believers.” (Pages 26–27)

“Knowing the Lord in salvation is the starting point. The rest of the believer’s life is a pursuit of greater knowledge of the glory of the Lord and His grace.” (Page 25)
