Top Highlights

“The only reason that Paul is able to press forward to make perfection his own is that Christ has first made Paul his own. The order is essential, as it places emphasis on the initiative of divine grace and election as the foundation for Paul’s pursuit of growth in holiness.” (Page 354)

“‘Humility is honestly assessing ourselves in light of God’s holiness and our sinfulness.’42” (Page 195)

“This verse reminds us of the necessity of evaluating all of one’s circumstances in light of the progress of the gospel. Am I thinking through my difficulties, my suffering, my prosperity, and my opportunities as the means by which God is advancing the reach of the gospel? Or have I fallen into the easy trap of thinking that God’s blessings in my life are an end in and of themselves rather than a means to advancing His gospel?” (Page 114)

“How might the gospel advance through our current circumstances if our ultimate goal was the progress of the gospel and not our personal comfort?” (Page 111)

“A prayerless life is a sign of a self-sufficient person; a prayerful life is a sign of a God-dependent person.” (Page 413)

I commend his work to students, teachers, and preachers who seek better to understand this important letter of Paul.

Very well-written. Great exegesis but communicates in way that is so easy to understand. This commentary is written by an author who loves the Lord Jesus Christ and makes it a blessing for his readers to learn from the letter of Philippians. This commentary is written in a way that would be helpful for any Christian, from the scholar, to the pastor, to the laymen, to the baby Christian.

GET THIS. I had the joy of reading the manuscript. It is a must-have for, at least, preachers and teachers of Philippians, as well as any serious student. Harmon brings that rare combination of readable scholarship warmed by love for Christ and His Gospel. I expect this to be used for many years to come.
