Overview

From the Introduction: "Here the writer of the Hebrews letter is saying that even the law, the ceremonies, the sacrifices, and all the rituals of the Old Testament were but a shadow or a type of the things which were to come. Then he goes on to say that they were not perfect types, that is, they were not the very image of the things which were to come."

Top Highlights

“The Bible said Adam called his wife Eve because she was the mother of all living. If Adam is a type of Christ and he named Eve, then Christ will of necessity name His bride, or again typology would not be consistent. Note in Isaiah 62:2, ‘And the Gentiles shall see Thy righteousness and all kings Thy glory: and Thou shalt be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord shall name.” (source)

“There is one unbreakable rule in typology and we dare not violate this rule. We must always go from the natural to the spiritual.” (source)

“My wife is mine by marriage, but she didn’t take my name, she took my father’s name. And when the Church is espoused to Christ she does not take the name of Christ, she takes the name of God because the Church always takes God’s name, and that’s true in a marriage relationship.” (source)

“It is the imperfect to represent the perfect and since they are imperfect, we can follow a type only as long as the truth we are presenting parallels the divine creation with which we are dealing.” (source)

“Webster says a type denotes a prefigurative action or occurrence in which one event, person, or circumstance is intended to represent another—but future or distant.” (source)

This is a very good book on typologies and other information related to types and shadows. I've studied many years in this area (45 yrs) and learned a lot from the book. I recommend it to all interested in growing in the Lord. It is easy reading. May the Lord bless you as you serve him. charlesJ.
