“The angels of God ascended and descended upon the ladder which Jacob beheld in his dream; this is a beautiful similitude of Christ. Himself God and man, he has become Mediator between both, and has formed a communication between heaven and earth; he descended at his incarnation, and ascended when he was received up in sight of his sorrowing disciples from the hill of Bethany.” (Page 9)

“Let not that distress you, if only it apprehend Him. God bestows salvation, not because of your act, but on account of the object of your faith, which is Christ.” (Page 28)

“‘I had rather be the means of saving one soul, than making a hundred learned,’” (Page xii)

“Whatsoever I am, that am I to thee. Sin, what seekest thou in me? I belong to Jesus; in his wounds have I found salvation. Satan, get thee hence, Jesus is my shield; thy fiery darts are directed not to me, but him. O world, attempt not my destruction, if thou assault me, thou wilt dash thy head against a wall of adamant; and whom then wilt thou put to shame, me, or thyself? Death, thou art to me a messenger of mercy. Christ is my life, to die is gain; I abide in him, and he in me, and I shall possess his love for ever.” (Page 8)

“I will, through the grace of God, use all diligence, that I may rightly believe, faithfully live, patiently suffer, and joyfully die. Then shall I bear the marks of a true Christian, and His shall be the glory.” (Page 33)
