Overview

Hudson Taylor gave his life up to be a footnote in God’s story of worldwide redemption. He first arrived in China in the spring of 1854 and founded the China Inland Mission in 1865. In total Taylor spent 51 years preaching and teaching in China. In contrast to other missionaries of the time who also brought a gospel of Western culture, Taylor immersed himself in Chinese culture. He wore Chinese clothes, ate Chinese food, and wrote and spoke in several Chinese dialects. 150 years later, thanks in no small part to one willing middle-class Englishman, there are as many evangelical Christians in China as there are in America. This volume contains selected quotes from Hudson Taylor’s writings and addresses.

Top Highlights

“Communion with Christ requires our coming to Him. Meditating upon His person, and His work requires the diligent use of the means of grace, and specially the prayerful reading of His Word. Many fail to abide because they habitually fast instead of feed.” (Page 2)

“Satan may build a hedge about us and fence us in and hinder our movements, but he cannot roof us in and prevent our looking up.” (Page 13)

“All God’s giants have been weak men, who did great things for God because they reckoned on His being with them.” (Page 29)

“Abide in Me.’ The little word ‘in’ requires more than a passing notice. It is not used in the sense of within, as when the less is contained within the greater. As used in our text, it implies union with, vital connection with, identification of life with its object.” (Page 6)

“Do not have your concert first, and then tune your instruments afterwards. Begin the day with the Word of God and prayer, and get first of all into harmony with Him.” (Page 51)
