“A second purpose of the burnt offering involves atonement, as Leviticus 1:4 states” (Page 54)

“Thus atonement in Leviticus was for the purpose of protecting God’s sacred space and bringing articles and people back into a state of participation in worship by means of purification.33 This was necessary in the Levitical system because of the divine presence amid unclean people, and it will be necessary in the millennium for the same reason. ‘This is done by purgation and whole offerings … whose function is to kipper, ‘purge,’ hitte’, ‘decontaminate,’ and tihher, ‘purify,’ the altar so as to make it fit for the regular worship (43:20, 22, 26). These rites have … to do with … the very ancient idea that all pollutions … contaminated the sanctuary.” (Page 51)

“The burnt offering had two purposes. The first is that the offering symbolized the complete devotion of the offerer to God.” (Page 53)

“the evidence is more compelling that in cultic texts the sense of wipe, erase, or clean is more foundational.” (Page 48)

“Preterism is the eschatological system that teaches that most (moderate, or partial preterism), if not all (extreme, or plenary preterism), of Jesus’ predictions in the Olivet Discourse were fulfilled at the time of Jerusalem’s desolation and the temple’s destruction in a.d. 70.” (Page 180)
