Overview

Best-selling author Dutch Sheets will inspire and encourage you with this clear, revelatory study of God’s appointed times and seasons. Going beyond the basic definitions of kairos and chronos, Dutch brings fresh insight to the subject, examining Scripture to show how kairos (strategic) times and chronos (general) times are not two separate and unrelated seasons in our lives but are often simply different phases of the same process. Dutch looks at how God brought about his divine shift in the lives of men and women throughout the Bible, and the many ways in which God used these seasons of change to deepen his people’s understanding of him. God has an intense desire to bring about the divine shift in your life on the earth today, and you must be prepared and willing to move with him according to his timing.

Top Highlights

“The other Greek word for ‘new’ is kainos, which means not only numerically new but also qualitatively new.” (Page 9)

“Here’s the paradox: A person who is more passionate for God is more at risk of spiritual disillusionment than a person who has little or no passion or commitment.” (Page 32)

“It is important to realize, however, that our actions and attitudes in the chronos times are what determine whether or not God can shift us into the kairos times.” (Page 18)

“The word neos means numerically new but not different” (Page 9)

“We need to understand the timings and seasons God ordains for our lives, ministries, cities and nations. Too often we try to reap during planting season, plant during harvest, run when we should be resting and rest when it is time to run. Doing even the right thing at the wrong time, well intentioned as it may be, will cause us to miss the train every time.” (Page 6)

This is an easy-to-read little book that takes a good look at how God's timing works. Each of the 5 chapters does end with some questions for further thought, so this lends itself easily to group study. Whilst I am not a big fan of the way the Author often uses Scripture verses ignoring their context, nor do am I entirely comfortable with the way he uses Greek words (as he seems to assumes that their meaning is far more fixed than they are in any natural language), I really did enjoy his effective use of anecdotes :) Overall I did find this small book to be encouraging, and it did give me a few things to think about :)
