Overview

Krister Stendahl offers a provocative and compelling reading of Paul’s letter to the Romans, the “final account” of the major themes of Paul’s theology. Among these are the conceptual underpinnings of Paul’s mission, the grand divine plan for the mending of creation, the redemption of Israel, the mystery of the inclusion of the Gentiles, and the relation of the “macro” to the “micro” in Paul’s thought—and much more.

Logos Bible Software dramatically improves the value of Final Account: Paul’s Letter to the Romans by enabling you to find what you’re looking for with unparalleled speed and precision. The Logos edition is fully searchable and easily accessible. Scripture passages link directly to your preferred English translation and to the original language texts, and important theological concepts link to dictionaries, encyclopedias, and a wealth of resources in your digital library.

Top Highlights

“Paul made peace with his weakness. It had nothing to do with sin; that association was introduced later to the Christian tradition, and it came not least of all through Augustine.” (Page 2)

“The only reason reformers can pit the text of Scripture against Tradition is that the Tradition has preserved it.’” (Page vii)

“Thus Romans is Paul’s account of how his mission to the Gentiles was grounded not only in his call to be Apostle to the Gentiles but also in Scripture, the only Scripture the first Christians had, that is, the Old Testament. Or perhaps we should say the First Testament.” (Page ix)

“Romans is Paul’s final account of his theology of mission.” (Page ix)

“The second problem that worried Paul deeply was Israel” (Page 1)

The book is delightful reading, punctuated with humor, yet serious about expounding long-standing traditional interpretations of Paul and of Romans that fly in the face of the text and the spirit of Paul’s intentions.

It's funny that the above "Praise for the Print Edition" hardly qualifies as praise. The same quote is on the book's back cover. Read the text carefully for its true meaning.
