“The importance in salvation history of the events involved in these apocalyptic prophecies also emphasizes the point that longer than literal time periods are necessary for their accomplishment. Furthermore, the emphasis on ‘the time of the end’ in some of the prophecies of Daniel implies that their time periods extend down to that ‘time of the end’ and delimit it.
