Overview

Prayer is intended to be a conversation—a two-way dialogue between God and you. As with any form of communication, you must learn to speak and listen. When you learn to speak and listen to God, you open up the limitless potential of communication with your Creator. In this book you will learn the four keys to hearing God’s voice, how to discern His will for your life, and how you can know for sure that what you hear is God’s voice.

“The second key found in Habakkuk is in the phrase, ‘I will stand on my guard post.’ Habakkuk knew how to go to a quiet place and quiet his own thoughts and emotions so he could sense the spontaneous flow of God within.” (Page 9)

“The first key to hearing God’s voice, then, is learning what His voice spoken within sounds like. Rather than being an inner audible voice, I discovered that God’s voice in our hearts generally sounds like a flow of spontaneous thoughts. Yes, God graciously spoke to me in an audible voice that one night, but that is certainly not the norm.” (Page 8)

“The second important Scriptural safeguard from error and spiritual harm is a humble, teachable spirit.” (Page 12)

“Another form of vision involves seeing outside ourselves with spiritual eyes.” (Page 66)

“The third key is found in Habakkuk’s phrase, ‘I will keep watch to see.’ I asked myself why he said it that way. Why didn’t he say, ‘I will listen to hear what He will speak to me.’” (Page 9)

As a pastor for 47 years and seeking to lead people into a dynamic relationship with the Father, I know of no more valuable and necessary thing than what Mark so simply and definitely teaches. I highly recommend this book as a vital and necessary aid for growing and maturing Christians.

—Peter Lord, former pastor, Park Avenue Baptist Church
