Gary Carr

Dr. Gary Carr, vice president for adult and graduate studies at Southern Wesleyan University, oversees the adult and graduate studies program administration operations, and provides leadership for faculty services, student services, and chaplains’ services.

He served as vice president for translations for the International Bible Society and as division chaplain, 2nd Marine Division and 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In addition, Dr. Carr has served as command chaplain aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk and Battle Force Seventh Fleet.

During his military career, he served as national director of chaplain recruitment and as command chaplain at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Pensacola, Florida. He is an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church and served as pastor for the Diamond Springs Wesleyan Church in Michigan.

Dr. Carr and his wife, Karen, are the parents of two married children, Lesleigh and Lauren, as well as a daughter at home, Lydia.

    I picked up the audio course at some point and finally listened to it. I found it interesting to hear these short descriptions of preachers through the ages. I would encourage anyone who listens to it to do follow up on some of these folks. Some deny the virgin birth, the resurrection... so in my book, 'good' speakers but not preachers. Some seemed more like actors than true believers.
