Overview

For a number of years the Dallas public schools allowed one-half credit toward high-school graduation for the successful completion of a general survey course in the Bible, given in the churches and Sunday schools of the city. In 1939, it was decided to provide separate courses in the Old and New Testaments, each course carrying one-half unit of credit toward high school graduation. In both the Old Testament and the New Testament study courses an attempt has been made to avoid controversial questions by placing emphasis on the study of the Bible itself. Standards of work and teaching procedures are expected to approximate as closely as possible those used in the day schools. These in-depth courses are suitable for individuals or groups of youth or adults.
