J. Grant Anderson (1873–1927) was born near Union City, Pennsylvania. He married Edith Joy in 1895. In 1898, Anderson was diagnosed with the “white plague,” tuberculosis. He called upon his friend H. M. Riggle to pray for healing which God answered. From then on he responded to God’s calling to preach the Gospel for the rest of his life. In 1903, he was ordained as a Church of God minister. Anderson contributed to the Gospel Trumpet magazine beginning in 1916 and was on the Board of Directors of the Gospel Trumpet publishing company.
