Overview
In his first encyclical—written only a few months into both his pontificate and World War I—Pope Benedict XV wrote this heartfelt appeal for peace. He points out that it is no coincidence that such a terrible war has sprung up at a time when world rulers are setting aside Christ. He implores the leaders to return to Christian principles and the love of Christ in order to restore peace.
