Overview

Many pastors and lay counselors have had little training in clinical methods of grief and trauma counseling. H. Norman Wright gives a biblical, practical guide to pastoral counseling. A follow-up to Wright’s best-selling The New Guide to Crisis and Trauma Counseling, Wright brings more than 40 years of clinical and classroom experience to this topic, and shares real-life dialogues from his private practice to demonstrate healthy, healing counseling sessions. Readers will learn how to counsel and coach both believers and non-believers who are grieving, how to walk alongside them, and how to help them find the path to restoration.

“His comment of asking God to heal his heart ‘one stitch at a time’ is so true of the slow process of grief. There are no quick fixes.” (Page 11)

“‘There’s an empty place in my life, an immense hole, and it will never be filled in again.’” (Page 6)

“My challenge was to discover what my ‘new normal’ was to be” (Page 13)

“Bereavement is a process of learning to fully experience the loss while still living with the memories.’2” (Page 167)
