Top Highlights

“According to a legend Satan and his demons were having a Christmas party. As the demonic guests were departing, one grinned and said to Satan, ‘Merry Christmas, your majesty.’ At that, Satan replied with a growl, ‘Yes, keep it merry. If they ever get serious about it, we’ll all be in trouble.’ Well, get serious about it. It is the birth of the Baby. It is the coming of God. It is the intervention of God’s presence among men.” (Page 82)

“If God really is the center of one’s life and being, joy is inevitable. If we have no joy, we have missed the heart of the Good News and our bodies as much as our souls will suffer the consequences.” (Page 322)

“A church board decided that people in the congregation were embarrassed when the offering plates were passed. So they thought they ought to have a new system that wouldn’t embarrass anybody, especially those who couldn’t give. They asked the pastor to design a way of handling it so people could give as they came in or went out. So he built several interesting boxes and put them at each door. But these boxes were different. If you dropped in a dollar or more, it made no noise, it was silent. If you gave a half dollar, a little bell tingled. If you gave a quarter, it blew a whistle. If you gave a dime, a siren went off. If you gave a nickel, a shot sounded.” (Page 388)

“While parking late at night, you slightly scrape the side of a Porsche. You are certain no one else is aware of what happened. The damage is minor and would be covered by insurance. Would you leave a note? I read not long ago about a fellow who really did that, except people were watching. And he took out a piece of paper and he wrote on it, ‘A number of people around me think I’m leaving you a note that includes my name and address, but I’m not.’” (Page 145)
