Reading through the Bible is a tremendous asset to one’s spiritual walk, but without some guidance it can be a difficult and confusing task. Richard M. Gagnon provides a helping hand with Footsteps Through The Bible, a one-year chronological reading plan and study reference born out of his own desire to better understand the Scriptures.
Footsteps is easy to use on a daily basis, and helps the reader move through the Bible in a systematic, chronological sequence. Not to be confused with a chronological Bible, this chronological reading guide allows the reader to use his or her favorite Bible version to complete the reading assignments.
Many users of Logos Bible Software have asked for a reading plan that walks through the Bible chronologically. Footsteps meets that need and provides a great springboard for further study. When you click on the day's reading your preferred Bible (sold separately) will open to the desired passage--no shuffling pages and hunting for the right verse. From there you can use the outline notes provided or dive in deeper using additional tools and texts you may have in your digital library.
“It must be remembered that chronology was of secondary importance to the writers of Scripture, hence, the historical accounts written were concerned more with relationships and spiritual matters than with historical accuracy. Israel and Judah did not even use the same systems for counting the first year of a king’s reign, nor did they use the same calendars, with Israel’s new year starting in the spring (Nisan) and Judah’s in the fall (Tishri).” (Page 12)
“Worship, prayer, and the word of God. These are the keys to a holy, fruitful and victorious life in Christ Jesus. Each of them must be an integral part of our daily lives. God speaks to us through his word, the Holy Bible. It teaches us how to have a relationship with God through Jesus, and how to worship, pray and live righteously before God. It is our spiritual milk and our spiritual meat. Without regular Bible reading our life is barren. We cannot grow in holiness. And we cannot serve God or one another acceptably.” (Page 10)
“Remember, it’s regular daily reading, meditation and study that are important, and the blessing and growth that come from continual immersion in and obedience to the Word of God.” (Page 16)
“A cross (†) symbol is used to mark Old Testament verses that are identical or virtually identical to verses you have already read or are about to read.” (Page 16)
“the relative dating and chronological order of most Scripture is generally agreed upon” (Page 13)
