Overview

The loss of a job. A rebellious child. A loved one dies. A dear friend has been diagnosed with cancer. A struggling marriage. Financial hardships.

The list is endless. When hard times come, we need wisdom to navigate through the shoals of adversity into a safe harbor. And now, in How to Handle Adversity, Charles Stanley offers a practical, biblical approach to help us deal with the troubles common to us all.

Adversity is a reality that no one can avoid. Everyone asks why when adversity strikes. Yet Stanley contends, “As much as we all want to know the answer to the why question, it is really not the most significant question. The real question each of us needs to ask is, How should I respond?”

Top Highlights

“The point is that God has chosen you to represent Him within your sphere of influence.” (source)

“Far more important than the source of adversity is the response to adversity. Why? Because adversity, regardless of the source, is God’s most effective tool for deepening your faith and commitment to Him. The areas in which you are experiencing the most adversity are the areas in which God is at work.” (source)

“No. Our reality has been fashioned by Adam’s choice to sin. And sin always results in adversity.” (source)

“Our purpose is to find the reason for the adversity we face. The thought may arise: Surely this is God’s way of paying me back. If, however, we are convinced that nothing we have done merits the magnitude of our adversity, we have no choice, it seems, but to question the goodness and faithfulness of God.” (source)

“Adversity is a reality that none of us can avoid. Therefore, it is in your best interest to begin responding in such a way that the negative can be used to accomplish the will of God in your life. And as you begin responding correctly, perhaps you will begin to understand why!” (source)
