In I Corinthians 13, the Apostle Paul offers God’s view of love. At the heart of it is the word agape, found over and over again in the chapter. This study of I Corinthians 13 will investigate the power and priority of love over all other virtues, and will examine the two positive characteristics of love that dominate the chapter. This study will also explore love’s power over envy, pride, selfishness, anger, and resentment as it works through the chapter word by word. The more we reflect love and give it away to others, the more we will experience love in our own lives.
“Agape is almost synonymous with sacrifice. It is the willingness to give of oneself totally, with abandon, for the one who is the object of our love, not expecting anything in return. What reward could God expect from us to cause Him to give Himself on our behalf? It was wholehearted, unselfish, sacrificial love.” (Pages 11–12)
“the highest kind of love. At the heart of agape love is the concept of sacrifice.” (Page 11)
“This is not necessarily a description the characteristics of love as it is a description of the lifestyle of love.” (Page 20)
“If you haven’t discovered it already, 1 Corinthians 13 is a passage of Scripture written to a very carnal church.” (Page 112)
“Love is God’s greatest priority for our lives. When we find love, we find God” (Page 8)
