Overview

Who is the Holy Spirit to you? A mysterious being, shrouded in enigma and controversy? Is He a cold doctrine, perhaps referred to in Scripture but irrelevant to you today? Or is He a living, vibrant person who comforts, teaches, and guides you throughtout life?

To many, the idea of the Holy Spirit is confusing at best. But in this collection of timeless sermons, Dr. J. Vernon McGee explores the mysteries of the third member of the Trinity, breathing new life into ageless doctrines. This treasury features some of Dr. McGee's finest works and helps you to discover:

  • The role of the Holy Spirit in creation and throughout the ages
  • Jesus' reliance on the Holy Spirit in His life and ministry
  • The relevance and purpose of the Holy Spirit in your own life
  • What it means to walk in the Spirit

Through his warmth of expression and unmistakable teaching style, Dr. McGee transforms a difficult and confusing subject into a thought-provoking, wondrous, and fascinating study, bringing to life the person who is the Holy Spirit. Through His Spirit is a resource no believing Christian should be without.

Top Highlights

“Then what does it mean to quench, or extinguish, the Holy Spirit? It is to resist His leading. It is when a believer says no to God. It is putting the will of the individual above the will of God. That is what it means to quench the Holy Spirit.” (Pages 194–195)

“The question is asked: ‘How many Persons are there in the Godhead?’ The answer is: ‘There are three Persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory.’ That definition is the finest to be found.” (Page 20)

“Jesus Christ returned to the Father because He had completed His work here. When He died on the cross, He died a judgment death. He took my guilt and your guilt and died in our place. He was delivered for our offenses, but He was raised for our justification. He was raised from the dead that you and I might not only have our sins subtracted, but so that we might have His righteousness added.” (Page 95)

“That’s where the trouble is in the church today—carnal believers. God can’t speak to a great many people who are born again. The reason is because they have no understanding of the Word of God. They do not study the Word of God, and they have no hunger or desire for it whatsoever.” (Page 43)

“Scripture clearly delineates seven unique and peculiar ministries that the Holy Spirit came to perform: He came in order that He might restrain evil in the world, convict of sin, regenerate, indwell, seal, baptize, and fill.” (Page 87)
