Overview

The title of this book states that its subject matter is God’s plan for Israel. However, that’s only part of the story. More specifically, this book is about the righteousness of God in his dealings with the Jewish people. While books abound concerning Israel and prophecy, authors seldom write about God’s faithfulness in relation to the children of Jacob. This volume endeavors to present an exposition of Paul’s teaching in Romans 9–11 regarding the integrity of God in his dealings with Israel.

In a day when there is a drift from traditional dispensationalism toward covenant theology, Steven Kreloff’s book God’s Plan for Israel appears as a breath of fresh air. His lucid treatment of Romans 9–11 is an excellent exposition of Israel’s past, present, and future.

“In Romans 8 Paul enlarged upon the concept of future glory by teaching that salvation in Christ Jesus is complete and will take us all the way to Heaven. He began the chapter by stating that ‘there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus’ (8:1) and he closed the chapter by declaring that nothing ‘shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord’ (8:39). All the verses in between these two magnificent statements were designed to give assurance that believers are safe and secure in Christ.” (Page 14)

“This amazing statement from the last book of the Old Testament has troubled many unnecessarily. God was not referring to loving Jacob personally while hating Esau personally. God was saying that at the beginning of Israel’s history He chose Jacob over Esau before they were born, and at the close of Israel’s Old Testament history He could sum up His attitude toward His chosen people as love and His attitude toward the idolatrous nation of Edom as hate.” (Page 32)

“Personal salvation is an individual matter. A Gentile does not become a Christian by being born into a Christian family any more than a Jewish person becomes a recipient of God’s promises to Israel by being born into a Jewish family.” (Page 27)

“No nation but Israel had the inestimable privilege of God’s visible presence guiding, protecting, and assuring them.” (Page 22)

“His heart broke over Israel’s failure to embrace Christ. Such intensity of love is often lacking in today’s Christian. To us Hell is often only a category of theology, an academic subject to be discussed. Paul’s concern for lost people was an anguish of heart reminiscent of Christ’s weeping over the city of Jerusalem (Matthew 23:37) and then suffering judgment for its sin.” (Page 20)
