Overview

Letters to Timothy is John Bisagno's retirement gift to younger and older pastors alike. A practical manual, filled with useful advice, it covers all aspects of pastoral life for churches of all sizes, locations, and denominations, addressing the “things that might have fallen through the cracks in seminary.”

Top Highlights

“Shepherds don’t follow the flock; they lead the flock. But that leadership must be deserved, earned, and won by integrity, faithful ministry, vulnerability, true humility, godliness, service, and by faithfully feeding the flock the Word of God.” (Page 9)

“‘The first part of your ministry, you lead out of what you can do. The last part, you lead out of who you are.’” (Page 44)

“It is the place of the pastor to be the vision-caster. He first must get alone with God and stay until he hears from heaven.” (Page 91)

“Doctrinal issues are never decided by congregation or committee. They are defined and articulated by the pastor” (Page 17)

“Absolutely no church members should serve on the finance committee unless they are tithers to the church. And it goes without saying that the same is true of the staff. We must not tolerate a situation in which those who live by the tithes of the people are not tithers themselves.” (Page 20)

My prayer is that an entire new generation of pastors and church planters will use this book to develop the necessary perspective, convictions, character, and skills needed for ministry in the 21st century from this giant of the 20th century.
