Overview

Zan Tyler passionately believes that God has appointed the home as a place where true education occurs and where learning best flourishes. Her in-the-trenches experience as a home school mother and advocate clearly show that children raised with a strong Christian worldview are well-equipped to become outstanding citizens, professionals, and more. In 7 Tools for Cultivating Your Child’s Potential, Zan presents a key list of biblical principles that parents can readily engage as they seek to raise dynamic and successful children who love the Lord and one another.

Top Highlights

“For example, in the random world of today, salvation is detached from Jesus. Modern morality is detached from the Ten Commandments. Sex is detached from marriage. Childcare is detached from motherhood. Even education is becoming detached from real life.” (Page 21)

“The four tools you can use in your home to cultivate intimacy are time, personal presence, conversation, and physical affection.” (Page 45)

“We are to work diligently to prepare a place in this world for our children by carefully cultivating their God-given gifts and personalities. Our goal is to prepare them to fulfill their God-ordained places in this world in relation to their occupational calling, their calling as future spouses and parents, their calling as citizens, and their calling as Christians.” (Page 13)

“Our society is full of adults and teenagers who are random—who lack a purpose for their lives and are therefore forced to run a haphazard race rather than the race that God has set before them.” (Page 20)

“Our goal should be one of faith working through love to provide a home that is vibrant and engaging, supportive and instructive, while being characterized by grace and love.” (Pages 27–28)

I enjoyed this 8-Chapter anonymously-long book [doesn't have page numbers built into it :-( ] This book was written to women, but it resonated with me [not a woman] in supporting my desire for critical reflection on--and improvement of--my Christian leadership of my children/family. The chapters provide advice on working through the family to "Establish Identity; Cultivate Intimacy; Discover Purpose; Develop Worldview; Build Character Through Discipleship; Provide Stimulating Academics [the author is an avid homeschooler]; and Foster Leadership and Communication Skills." This might be a great book to select for a Christian small group to jointly read through and discuss.
