Top Highlights

“Christianity is not a thing of times and seasons, but of God and faith. Drink deep and full of the love of God and you will not demand the impossible from earth’s loves, and the love of wife and child, of husband and friend, will grow holier and healthier and simpler and grander.” (source)

“The love of God is not revealed by intellectual discernment, it is a spiritual revelation. What ups and downs we experience because we build not on faith but on feeling, not on the finished work of Christ but on our own work and endeavour and experience.” (source)

“Love is difficult to define, but the working definition I would like to give is that ‘Love is the sovereign preference of my person for another person, embracing everyone and everything in that preference.’” (source)

“We slander God by our very eagerness to work for Him without knowing Him.” (source)

“We are apt to think that everything that happens to us is to be turned into useful teaching; it is to be turned into something better than teaching, viz. into character. We shall find that the spheres God brings us into are not meant to teach us something but to make us something.” (source)

Oswald Chambers

Oswald Chambers (1874–1917) was a prominent preacher, writer, and evangelist. He studied at The Art School in South Kensington, the University of Edinburg, and Dunoon Training School.

Chambers served as a YMCA chaplain to British Commonwealth soldiers during World War I. He also worked as a traveling speaker for the League of Prayer and as the main teacher of the Bible Training College. His preaching ministry reached Britain, America, and Japan.

Chambers’ books are mainly compilations of his messages that were transcribed by his wife, Gertrude or “Biddy” as he called her. The daily devotional My Utmost For His Highest was first published in 1927 and continues to be a best-seller. 24 essays and books, including Studies in The Sermon on Mount and Biblical Psychology, can be found in the Oswald Chambers Collection.
