Top Highlights

“The word of God through the Spirit is creative, not persuasive. It hinders the work of the Spirit when we try and persuade people, it puts the basis not on Redemptive Reality but on our ingenious reasoning.” (source)

“What men call the process, God calls the end. If you can stay in the midst of the turmoil unperplexed and calm because you see Jesus, that is God’s purpose in your life; not that you may be able to say, ‘I have done this and that and now it’s all right.’ God’s purpose for you is that you depend upon Him and His power now; that you see Him walking on the waves—no shore in sight, no success, just the absolute certainty that it is all right because you see Him.” (source)

“Never put your dream of success as God’s purpose for you; His purpose may be exactly the opposite.” (source)

“Whenever I say ‘I want to reason this thing out before I can trust,’ I will never trust. The reasoning out and the perfection of knowledge come after the response to God has been made.” (source)

“God seems careless of His children from the standpoint of Time; when we get to the Eternal side of God’s Providence we find He does not estimate a man by what he possesses; the only thing He is after is union with Himself, and He will obliterate all our possessions until He leaves only Himself. As long as I have something from God which I possess, I have not got God. God gives us possessions in order to draw us to Himself, and when we get God we are no longer conscious of our possessions, but conscious only of God. What possesses me in a yielded life to God is God Himself.” (source)

Oswald Chambers

Oswald Chambers (1874–1917) was a prominent preacher, writer, and evangelist. He studied at The Art School in South Kensington, the University of Edinburg, and Dunoon Training School.

Chambers served as a YMCA chaplain to British Commonwealth soldiers during World War I. He also worked as a traveling speaker for the League of Prayer and as the main teacher of the Bible Training College. His preaching ministry reached Britain, America, and Japan.

Chambers’ books are mainly compilations of his messages that were transcribed by his wife, Gertrude or “Biddy” as he called her. The daily devotional My Utmost For His Highest was first published in 1927 and continues to be a best-seller. 24 essays and books, including Studies in The Sermon on Mount and Biblical Psychology, can be found in the Oswald Chambers Collection.
