Top Highlights

“Love without discipline encourages a self-indulgent life. But discipline without love encourages bitterness and rebellion.” (Page 942)

“To pray ‘in Jesus’ name’ is to make requests that are in fullest harmony with Christ’s character and His purposes. When we pray in this way, we can be sure our prayers will be answered, and that God’s power will flow.” (Page 796)

“Solomon went to a Gentile to help him build God’s temple. And that Gentile acknowledged God as no mere local deity, but the One ‘who made heaven and earth.’” (Page 263)

“We may accomplish less than we set out in life to do. But if we do what is right in the eyes of God, we have lived successfully and well.” (Page 269)

“Actually, this chapter traces the growth of the blind man’s faith in Jesus, from first response to full discipleship. We notice the stages in the way the man speaks and thinks of Jesus: He was ‘the Man they call Jesus’ (v. 11), then ‘He is a Prophet’ (v. 17), then ‘from God’ (v. 33), the ‘Son of man’ (a messianic title) (v. 35), and finally, ‘Lord’ (v. 38).” (Page 781)

I'll admit that I haven't seen or used many other devotionals. I don't need to with this one. My wife and I are on our 3rd time through of 4 years. Last year, tried something else but nothing else will suffice now. We're getting a good overview and enough background to make me thirstier.

I would agree with everything that Karen's husband commented. An excellent tool to go deeper on reading God's word in a year. I'm getting so much more this year with this commentary and it does take approximately 1 hour per day. Well worth the time!!!

Karen's hubby here. I wanted to not only read through the Bible in a year, but to go deeper than just reading. I've read the Bible in a year several times before, but just didn't get that much out of it other than being able to say I'd read the entire Bible. So here I am in December and almost finished. I made a commitment, but as a word of warning, my commitment typically takes me 1-2 hours a day! You can do it with less time, of course but to cover it all thoroughly, I'm thinking 30 minutes a day minimum. I'm finding the time I've spent with this resource to be very well spent. The purpose is to get a good overview of the entire Bible - and for that it is great. There are better resources if you desire anything more in-depth. But if you want to take a shot at reading the Bible in a year, while digging a little deeper, this is a great way to do it - if you are willing to commit the time. I highly recommend.
