Overview

Deuteronomy records the final words of Moses, one of God’s greatest leaders. While Moses led God’s people, an entire generation died in the wilderness, and a new generation took its place. Moses repeated the laws God had given on Mount Sinai and reapplied them for a new generation as the people prepared to enter the Promised Land.

Many people have found The People’s Bible to be the most reliable Bible commentary series published. It’s the laypeople’s Bible—down to earth, clearly written, easy to read and understand, filled with practical and contemporary applications. The Christ-centered commentary follows the Scripture sections containing explanations of the text, historical background, maps, illustrations, and archaeological information.

The People’s Bible commentaries are great for personal or group study.

Top Highlights

“Trouble arises when people enjoy prosperity so much that they forget the God who gave it to them.” (Page 84)

“In fact, God doesn’t test people for his sake but for ours. By testing us, he lets us find out what he already knows. His tests show us that he has created a faith in our hearts far deeper and stronger than we ever realized. His tests also become occasions to exercise our faith, much as a coach arranges a scrimmage to give his team experience.” (Page 81)

“Israel’s return to the land was intertwined with their return to the Lord in repentance and faith.” (Page 286)

“We may boast that we are self-made men and women and take credit for our success because we are clever or because we work hard. By giving his people manna in the wilderness, the Lord humbled them; clearly, Israel hadn’t earned it. In this new land, Israel would still need to remember that the ability to work is also God’s gift.” (Page 84)

“The good news about Jesus and the life that flows from Christian faith are more frequently caught than taught, as sons and daughters follow the model of mother and father.” (Page 71)
