“The issue is not the amount of faith (which in the example is only very tiny), but its presence, which can accomplish impossible things. To cause a tree to be uprooted and planted in the sea is impossible. The expression is a rhetorical idiom. It is like saying a camel can go through the eye of a needle (Luke 18:25).” (Luke 17:6)

“Heb ‘walk in.’ The three perfect verbal forms in v. 1 refer in this context to characteristic behavior. The sequence ‘walk–stand–sit’ envisions a progression from relatively casual association with the wicked to complete identification with them.” (Psalm 1:1)

“Traditionally ‘helper.’ The English word ‘helper,’ because it can connote so many different ideas, does not accurately convey the connotation of the Hebrew word עֵזֶר‎ (’ezer). Usage of the Hebrew term does not suggest a subordinate role, a connotation which English ‘helper’ can have. In the Bible God is frequently described as the ‘helper,’ the one who does for us what we cannot do for ourselves, the one who meets our needs. In this context the word seems to express the idea of an ‘indispensable companion.’ The woman would supply what the man was lacking in the design of creation and logically it would follow that the man would supply what she was lacking, although that is not stated here. “Thus the two actions are really one and the same: Bearing fruit and being Jesus’ disciple are not two different actions, but a single action. The first is the outward sign or proof of the second—in bearing fruit the disciples show themselves to be disciples indeed (cf. 15:5). Thus the translation followed here is, ‘that you bear much fruit and show that you are my disciples.’” (John 15:8)
