Student’s Vocabulary for Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic
Overview
A Student’s Vocabulary for Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic provides the student with a vocabulary list by word frequency for words appearing ten times or more in the Hebrew text. Unlike other vocabulary lists, this work combines all word forms in a single list, simplifying the student’s task of learning all words of a given frequency. Words are given in groups of 30 or fewer in order to provide the students with short, manageable learning blocks. The vocabulary list also gives the basic meaning of each word, a phonetic pronunciation guide, key information about the word’s part of speech, and the number of times each word appears in the Hebrew text. A separate section of the vocabulary list contains all Aramaic words appearing in the Old Testament. A Student’s Vocabulary for Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic is a tool that will be welcomed and used by all students of Hebrew.

This book is good, but the Logos resource is disappointing: there are a substantial number of typographic errors. I've tried reporting the ones I've obviously spotted, but there are simply too many. A careful review and updating of this resource is warranted. Also, it would be ideal if there was a simple way to make a word list from its various sections, so that the Logos flashcard app can be used to learn the vocabulary. Manually copying/adding lemmas one at a time works, but is tedious when I'm trying to learn 2-3 of these lists a week for class.

Larry Mitchel's vocabulary guide has always been a valuable tool in the hands of the professor and the student. I use it at length to aid my students building on their Hebrew vocabulary. Within this book of less than 100 pages the student can gain so much, from pointed root words to its English translational value to transliteration. Well done Professor Mitchel! Leander Chalice
