Overview

The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament is considered by many to be the best New Testament dictionary ever compiled. It contains 2300 entries which cover the spectrum of biblical topics from "A to Z." The one-volume abridgment of the 10-vol. Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, keeps most if not all of the information that pastors and laypeople can use, leaving out the technical and bibliographic information. It explores how each word is used, often in detail, explaining and expounding the underlying concepts. As a consequence, this work allows people who are not scholars to develop a deep understanding of the meaning and usage of words and concepts in the NT, letting them appreciate the nuances of meaning in the text and giving them a deeper understanding of what the biblical author is saying.

“The Theological Covenant. This arises when God is one of the participants and not merely a guarantor.” (Page 159)

“The problem with the false prophets is not that there is no true message of peace but that they construe peace as purely political, ignore the sins of the people, and thus fail to see or proclaim impending judgment.” (Pages 207–208)

Some people here seem to prefer the 10 volume edition. I own the 10 volume print edition, but still prefer this abridged version. It distills it down to the information you really need for studying and comprehending the meaning of the word as used in the Bible, yet also gives you the secular meaning. I find the 10 volume edition to be very bloated, confusing, and distracting. By the time you wade through all that, you've wasted a half an hour, and forgot why you even looked up the word.
