Praise for the Print Edition

Scott Hahn’s writings and conferences have been so effective in bringing Catholics closer to Sacred Scripture. His valuable Catholic Bible Dictionary will be another big help to faithful Catholics who have taken seriously the Church’s encouragement to become immersed in God’s Word.

—Most Reverend Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York

Catholic Bible Dictionary is an extremely useful tool for any Bible student, whether beginner or advanced. This dictionary is particularly helpful for Catholics who need both etymological studies of terms and solid theological help. My only hope is that the readers will study the articles on a regular basis and eventually read the whole dictionary as they study the whole Bible.

—Fr. Mitchell C. Pacwa, SJ, president, Ignatius Productions

Catholic Bible Dictionary is a superb reference book that is an absolute must for all students of Scripture—both clerics and laity. I would never be without a Bible dictionary in my home; however, Catholic Bible Dictionary is not just any Bible dictionary. It is written specifically for Catholics and is therefore more extensive and complete than others. With over five thousand entries as well as the latest up-to-date information on every important item, name, place, and event in Sacred Scripture, this book is essential for students of Scripture; it is also indispensable for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of God’s Word. In fact, I believe that every Catholic who owns a Bible should also have a copy of Catholic Bible Dictionary.

—Gail Buckley, founder and president, Catholic Scripture Study International

Overall this is a very good dictionary. I really do not have any complaints. It was everything I excepted. All Christians would benefit from this resource.

Scott Hahn wrote a book review on Amazon recommending the following sections. "Biblical Criticism; Covenant; Family; Inspiration; Interpretation of the Bible; Jesus Christ; Jubilee; Kingdom; Law; Liturgy; Marriage; Mary, the Mother of Jesus; Messiah; Parousia; Priest, Priesthood; Sacrifice; Temple; Typology. I'd also recommend the entries on each of the different books of the Bible."

I have wanted this book since I began scripture study with Logos. It is a tremendous resource for all students of the bible. I own the hard copy but will gladly pay for the Logos version. Can't wait!

I am so looking forward to this. Every work I have, produced by Scott Hahn, is exceptionally good, and this is no exception. I am currently studying--you don't just fast read his work--they aren't novels, but rather have food for thought--anyway, I'm into his "Consuming The Word".

So glad to have this in Logos as the book is very heavy to carry. Great resource for apologetics.

I have owned the print version of this in print since 2010. I hardly ever use it since having logos is usually enough for me. It only covers things specifically written in the Bible so don't expect to find things that come up in your head only to look up. It gives plenty of Biblical references however. So it is good for any theologian out there looking for a meaning to a word in the Bible. You may also find that in the Catechism of the Catholic Church if you can find it covered in there however. So I am sure the electronic version is better than the print version.

I have this book in print, since 2009. It is a fantastic resource for looking up topics from the Bible that I wish to learn more about. This Catholic Bible Dictionary could also be considered an encyclopedia, for it explains the topics with more that just a simple definition. The items are explained with a depth that makes the topics understandable. The items are arranged alphabetically, and are cross referenced extensively so that it is easy to find an item if you are not looking it up under the exact heading. This book does not contain a table of contents or a index, because they are not needed. There are two small appendixes, and an index to the maps. Seven maps are included (in color).
