Overview

Scripture illustrates the greatness of Jesus—his love, his wisdom, and his dignity. In There Is No Greater Love: How Jesus is Greater Than All Who Came Before Him, Warren A. Gage surveys Scripture, examining New Testament authors’ understanding of the greatness of Jesus. Key in this examination is the use of typology—a method of biblical interpretation where an Old Testament type prefigures and finds its ultimate fulfillment in a New Testament antitype. Jesus made statements comparing himself to the temple, Solomon, and Jonah; and the authors of the New Testament used comparisons to illustrate Jesus’ unique excellence. There Is No Greater Love is an accessible study of these comparisons and what they reveal about Jesus’ greatness. Filled with rich descriptions and references to Scripture, this work is perfect for personal and group study.

The Logos Bible Software edition of There Is No Greater Love: How Jesus is Greater Than All Who Came Before Him is designed to enhance your study of Jesus’ greatness. Scripture passages link directly to your English translations and original language texts, and important theological concepts link to dictionaries, encyclopedias, and a wealth of other resources in your digital library. In addition, you can perform powerful searches by topic and find what other authors, scholars, and theologians have to say about biblical typology, Jesus’ greatness, and the relationship between the Old and New Testament.

“The New Testament makes the startling claim that all the Scriptures are centered in Jesus and His gospel (1 Cor 15:3–4). Jesus said that the Old Testament spoke about Him (John 5:39). The Lord said that all the Hebrew Bible, from Moses through the prophets and psalms, foresaw His suffering and glory (Luke 24:27, 44).” (Page iii)

“from each tribe, and command them, ‘Take up twelve stones out of the” (Page 52)

“The picture of two angels sitting at either end of a slab with blood sprinkled clothes before them is a direct reference to the picture of the Ark of the Covenant. Jesus has made the tomb to be His Holy of Holies, where He was enthroned between the angels, reigning over death itself! He has taken a place that was the most ceremonially unclean, a place defiled by death, and restored the garden of God’s presence to us there (John 19:41, 20:15). As He spoke Mary’s name to her, she recognized Him standing (in the posture of life) before her. So God spoke to mankind once again in the garden.” (Page 49)

“As practiced by the authors of the New Testament, typology is the method used to show the excellence of Jesus, who surpasses all of the Old Testament prophets, priests, and kings who came before Him.” (Page iii)

“Jesus’ better blood speaks a greater love—offering mercy to all of us who are like Cain because our sins have murdered Him (Heb 12:24). Jesus’ blood speaks a better word than the blood of Abel because Jesus is His brothers’ keeper.” (Page 8)
