Children learn life skills through various acts of imitation. In fact, one classic quote communicates: “Imitation is the sincerest [form] of flattery.”
Did you ever play the childhood game “follow-the- leader”? This game involves one child at the front of a single line of children. Trailing behind, each child imitates each step and movement of the leader. (It’s harder and funnier than you think!)
In life, following leaders is common. We look to leaders to take charge... to guide and direct with discernment. As we follow those who go before us, we also inadvertently lead others behind us. Ultimately, we can lead people astray or lead people to excel—to fulfill the purpose for which they were created.
In truth, leadership itself was God’s design when he established a hierarchy of authority by designating Adam and Eve to be over all creation. In the Garden of Eden, after God created man and woman, He blessed them and said...
“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule... over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28 NASB)
