Overview

Divided into four parts, this practical book provides a basic introduction to the art of Greek exegesis for the beginner, an annotated bibliography dedicated to resources for exegesis, a general bibliography for New Testament research, and a listing of recommended New Testament commentaries.

Filled with practical tools and resources for the seminary exegete, Hagner's New Testament Exegesis and Research: A Guide for Seminarians is an excellent source of knowledge for developing a firm grasp of exegesis. Included in this work is a comprehensive bibliographical section, which directs the seminary student through the studies of other notable scholars, helping them establish a basis from which to start their studies and an reusable tool as a student progresses through their education.

“Responsible exegesis is possible only when you have control of the grammatical data of a passage” (Page 5)

The first part of this practical book presents a basic introduction to the art of Greek exegesis for the beginner. For pedagogical purposes the method is divided into separate parts, enabling the student to see the nature and full potential of each aspect of the exegesis process. The second part consists of an annotated bibliography devoted to the ever-growing and rich resources now available to provide direct aid to the Greek exegete, including sections on the newer approaches to interpretation and on hermeneutics. Part three contains a general bibliography for NT research, again annotated, and part four a list of recommended NT commentaries. Two appendices provide instruction and advice to students on writing academic papers.
