John Laurence von Mosheim, (1694–1755), or Johann Lorenz von Mosheim, was a German Lutheran theologian who founded the pragmatic school of church historians. His work was characteristically insistent on the utmost accuracy without embellishment, seeking to provide histories imbued with “purity and integrity.” His work was especially influential in the formation of the University of Göttingen. He was made chancellor of the university in 1747.
