William Wilson (1783–1873) was born in Westmorland, England. He studied at Queen’s College, Oxford, where he was later a fellow, from 1815–1825. Ordained a priest in 1808, Wilson became curate of Colne Engaine in Essex. From 1811–1816, he served as headmaster of St. Bees Grammar School, and in 1832 he became a canon of Winchester. Wilson was a highly skilled Hebrew scholar, most famous for his Old Testament Word Studies.
