Overview
Christian Dogmatics is a translation of Christliche Dogmatik that includes a three volume work of theology covering major Christian doctrines.
Volume one addresses the nature and character of theology, Holy Scripture, the doctrine of God, creation, divine providence, angelology, the doctrine of man, sin and evil, and more. Volume two addresses the saving grace of God; the doctrine of Christ; his deity, humanity, attributes, humiliation, exaltation, and offices; and the application of salvation, saving faith, conversion, and justification by faith. Volume three addresses sanctification, good works, the Christian life, the means of grace, Law and Gospel, Baptism, the Lord’s Supper, the Christian church, the public ministry, eternal election, and eschatology.

Great to have this classic in a searchable format, but I really wish they had retained a straightforward index as presented in the 4 volume set. The search feature does NOT make up for the omission of this volume. I was disappointed in this, especially since they made it sound as if that content was retained. It wasn't. Don't get me wrong, the search feature is great, but the index was invaluable as a tool. Now I will look for an orphan volume 4. I should have bought the hard copy instead.

Pieper's subject matter is incredibly complex, yet he handles it in clear, straightforward language and with clear, Scripture-supported reasoning. I find myself constantly turning to Pieper for ready answers on tricky subjects. As to the fourth volume, since they made the entire set searchable, I kinda feel like the index volume is superfluous, no?
