Overview

The Hebrew Grammatical Constructions dataset provides Logos users with better access to grammatical constructions which are of interest to both the exegete and the grammarian. The goal of the project is to provide the user with a compilation of several grammatical constructions for the purpose of analysis. These sets of constructions should not be seen as a comprehensive set of all the grammatical constructions of interest, but each individual construction should be complete in that it should list every occurrence of that construction in the Hebrew Bible.

Top Highlights

“Typically it signals that an event or state of affairs follows a preceding event in time.” (source)

“Weak verbs have one of two characteristics either of which make the verb form the irregular paradigm. The first characteristic, is to have at least one weak letter as one of its three root letters. The weak Hebrew letters are Aleph, Ayin, Chet, He, Waw, Resh, Yod, and Nun. The second, is to have the second and third root be identical. There are several sub-categories of weak verbs, each of which are annotated and searchable in this data set.” (source)

“Always preceding the content of the clause which it modifies, the particle deicticly points forward to the clause and is provided a particular prominence within the discourse. The idea of prominence is hard to describe so is sometimes described as expressing surprise or attention.” (source)

“This particle introduces a declaration or command after a statement of grounds, and relates two contents with one another.” (source)

“Typically this construction indicates that the verbal action is intensified.” (source)
