Overview
Who was Paul of Tarsus? In this course, Dr. Lynn Cohick draws from the book of Acts as well as Paul’s letters to paint a vivid picture of who he was, what he did, and what he believed. “We want to take a look both at Acts and at Paul’s letters because we want to make sure that we understand Paul not simply as someone who thinks about theology, sits at a desk and writes letters, but also as someone who is doing, who is living out what they claim.”
Dr. Cohick begins with Luke’s perspective in Acts, and draws attention to Paul’s desires and actions and the major events in his life. Then, using Acts as a narrative framework, she looks at Paul’s own writings to reveal more about his personal thoughts and fears. Dr. Lynn H. Cohick, presently serves as Provost and Dean of Academic Affairs of Northern Seminary in Lisle, Illinois. She also teaches New Testament and is leading the development of a MA program in women's studies.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Messiah College in Grantham, PA, and my Ph.D. in New Testament and Christian Origins from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. After 18 years as professor of New Testament and Biblical Studies at Wheaton College (serving as department chair and dean toward the end of her time there), she accepted the invitation to join Denver Seminary as their Provost / Dean. She's also taught at Messiah College (Grantham, PA), and Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (Nairobi, Kenya) in the 80s and 90s, respectively.
She has taught and given lectures around the world. Perhaps her most exciting venue was the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia. Where she presented the keynote lecture at Speech Night for the Presbyterian Ladies College, Sydney.
She enjoys preaching from the Bible, teaching on matters pertaining to women’s ministry, and exploring issues pertaining to the historical relationship between Jews and Christians.
