Overview

The Book of Psalms is known as the Bible’s songbook—Jesus knew all 150 psalms intimately, and relied on them to face every situation, including his death.

Two decades ago, Tim Keller began reading the entire Book of Psalms every month. The Songs of Jesus is based on his accumulated years of study, insight, and inspiration recorded in his prayer journals. Kathy Keller came to reading the psalms as a support during an extended illness. Together they have distilled the meaning of each verse, inviting readers into the vast wisdom of the psalms.

If you have no devotional life yet, this book is a wonderful way to start. If you already spend time in study and prayer, understanding every verse of the psalms will bring you a new level of intimacy with God, unlocking your purpose within God’s kingdom.

Top Highlights

“As Elisabeth Elliot said, ‘The secret is Christ in me, not me in a different set of circumstances.’61” (Page 159)

“Lord, I confess there was a time in which the idea that my days were ‘ordained’ in ‘your book’ felt limiting to me. But as time goes by, and I can see how limited our wisdom is, my only hope becomes reliance on yours. I praise you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made!” (Page 350)

“So to be intimidated by the world (Psalm 2) is as spiritually fatal as being overly attracted to it (Psalm 1).” (Page 2)

“We must let our marriages reveal Christ, not replace Christ.” (Page 95)

“Here are two crucial biblical truths that must be held together—everything we do is part of God’s plan, yet we are never coerced and are completely responsible for our actions.” (Page 268)

The best thing I can say about this devotional is that I am drawing to the end of the year and am sorry that I am nearing the end, but supremely happy for drawing nearer to my Lord because of having used it this past year. I have very much enjoyed my time in the Psalms!

This is one of the best, and perhaps the best, daily devotional that I have used. Not only was it a wonderful journey through the Psalms over the year, but Keller's daily comment was always quite good, and often superb. Plus the Prayer at the end of each day's devotion often put into words exactly what I needed, and stayed with me long after the day. I would highly recommend this to my fellow Christians. I bought a couple of extra copies to give away - and will be grabbing some more! Definitely a Daily Devotional that I will be using again!!!

This is a great resource - actually I only know a paperback version and some look-into pages since there's one major drawback currently not visible on this page: the resource is unavailable for international customers :(

I try to read a page of this devotional every night. There are some real gems in this little book. Thank you Logos for including it in your library. Sometimes you want to share excerpts from the book with others and having it in your library makes it easy to share quotes. I'm hoping Logos will also include Keller's book on Proverbs. I have the paperback. I recommend his book on Proverbs too.
