HISTORY and CREDIBILITY

Carrying all the integrity of the Logos Series X (LBS-X) Scholar’s Library [see “Reviews,” March 2004, p. 38], BLS offers expansion and incredible capabilities, especially for the serious computer Bible user or scholar.

CONTENT

Available for $159.95 from www.logos.com/bls, BLS expands the LBS-X user’s language resources, analytical tools, and ministry capabilities. Language resources include six Greek texts, two analytical lexicons, Greek-English lexicons for both the Septuagint and the New Testament, the Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, three volumes of Ancient Egyptian Literature, two old Syrian gospel  texts, the Syriac  Peshitta, Lee L. Kantenwien’s diagramming text, and Burton’s  Syntax of the Moods and Tenses in New Testament Greek.  Other resources include data sets that line up parallel passages in the synoptic Gospels; 2 Peter-Jude; amd 1 amd 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, and 1 and 2 Chronicles.  The data also includes an  Old Testament synopsis; Old Testament quotes in the New Testament, and the Eusebian Canons.

The following addin modules are all included as part of the purchase price of BLS and make available a significant range of new features.

Bible Analysis Addin
BLS offers exceptional graphics.  A Bible Clusters report provides a graphic display of disparities between translations in any language.  Bible Version Difference Rivers provide “visual rivers” displaying verse-by-verse differences among Bible versions.  The Graph Bible Search Results feature allows a broad array of graphing options for displaying search results.

Biblical Language Addin
The Morphological Filter is perfect for visually highlighting grammatical features in a Greek or Hewbrew text.  For example, you can color every present participle red.  A Verb River graphically presents the relative frequency of the various verb tenses throughout specified passages or books.

Sentence Diagramming Addin
Long awaited and welcomed, this tool allows users to insert verses, already grammatically color coded, and diagram any language requiring either right-to-left or left-to-right word order.  Thus, English, Greek, and Hebrew or Aramaic can all be diagrammed!

Bible Puzzles Addin
Facilitating ministry capability, this tool allows rapid compilation of word search puzzles from any passage in any language, including the biblical languages.

Rebuilt Resource
The program also updates earlier releases of LBS-X, giving the newest technology and rebuilt book files.

Conclusion

BLS is an excellent addition to LBS-X.  Users will gain a learning curve with BLS’s various tools, which are worth time investment to master.  A real asset, the graphic query editor, allows users to easily point and click to design and save their own graphic queries.  Due to sheer volume of information, the program runs slower than most.  BLS is highly recommended for those already using the LBS-X Scholar’s Library.  For more information and video demos, see www.logos.com/bls.
